Breaking Down The Key Concepts
As A levels Media Studies Students, mastering key concepts is very crucial. Here is an overview of those concepts.
So basically we break down this Representation of Mass Media as an academic Subject into four parts:
• Institutions
• Audiences
• Media Language
• Representation
So these four key concepts are what A levels Media Studies revolve around.
So starting about what we study about the "Institutions"
What we really study about these institutions are basically how they operate, how a film is produced and how it is then distributed and how different levels of production houses work to produce a certain film.
Moving on to the audiences when a certain film is produced, how the audiences consume it. How the audiences respond, how the audiences get to see some work, all of them are how audiences are studied.
Representation is also another of these key concepts. This can be how a certain "Class or Status", "Social Class", "Sexuality", "Gender", "Region" and many more stereotypes are represented. Like, if we talk about Class or Status it's how we represent any "Class or Status". For Example, Elite Class is normally represented as arrogant, cruel etc. This is the representation of that certain class.
Media Language are the key terminologies of the media world. The Camera Angles, Movements, Editing, Mise en scène, etc. All of these terminologies are part of the Media Language. In the analysis of films, all of these terminologies can be worked out as which camera angles and movements are used, which type of props and background is used, the cuts, the pace everything is included in the Media Language.
These Four Elements combined are what give us an overview of the A levels Media Studies Syllabus. And Mastering these would make you a master in this subject.
